How we use your information

When you submit a hug to us, we receive the following information from you (if you choose to share it with us):

  • Your name
  • What country you are in
  • Your hug description
  • Your email address (for signup only – see email signup below)

We will display your first name along with your country underneath your submitted hug on our website. You are very welcome to submit a hug anonymously, or only partially enter any personal information about yourself. Simply enter the information you wish to be posted alongside your hug.

We will never post details that disclose sensitive personal information about you, such as your full name, your email address or your exact location.

By submitting your hug, you are giving permission for The Hug Exchange and The Dept of Kindness to use your hug in other promotional materials and projects. This may include:

  • Social media
  • Email marketing
  • Publishing
  • The Dept. of Kindness website
  • Blog posts
  • Products
  • Courses

We abide by the ICO’s data protection rules. If you change your mind about having your hug or any of your personal information displayed on The Hug Exchange website or social media, simply email and let us know.

Email signup

The Dept. of Kindness
If you opt in to The Dept. of Kindness mailing list during your hug submission, your email address, name and country will be submitted to The Dept. of Kindness’ email list within a week, and you will receive a confirmation email from us.

Your email address will ONLY be shared with The Dept. of Kindness, and will not be stored within The Hug Exchange website.

You will be able to unsubscribe at any time in future if you should wish to, by using the unsubscribe button at the bottom of all future Dept. of Kindness emails.

The Compassion Revolution
If you opt in to The Compassion Revolution mailing list during your hug submission, your email address, name and country will be submitted to The Compassion Revolution’s email list.
